Gormley perceives Gormley

These Anthony Gormley statues are wonderful. Not for themselves, but just for their number and positioning.

They started out as part of a Hayward Gallery exhibition, all up high on the skyline visible from the London southbank, but now seem to have appeared in other places across the city, bringing with them a sense of fun and wonder. Before this, they were in Norway and other places, and are now permanently resident on Crosby beach in Liverpool, their planned trip across the Atlantic having been aborted.

Some new wave tracks this week.

One from A Different Kind of Tension my favourite new Wave album when i was a lot younger. One from a band I only really discovered on a bounce back across the Atlantic, where they were appreciated far more than they were in the UK. One from the Jesus of Cool about feeling small. He has just released a very fine new CD at a grand old age. And the last, Live in Leicester in 1977, a classic Wreckless Eric song covered by one of our greatest songwriters.

On blogging

I'm rubbish at it, because I don't put the hours in (too easily distracted, or too busy). However, this blog gets it right. Of course, there's still next to no money in it...

If your Yahoo! ID is based in Singapore, Germany, Hong Kong or Korea you will only be able to view safe flickr photograph content based on your local Terms of Service so won’t be able to turn Flickr's SafeSearch off.

In other words that means, that German users can not access photos on flickr that are not flaged "safe" ... only flowers and landscapes for the Germans ...

This is the most ridiculous application of censorship on the internet - from a website that is otherwise awesome. If you're a flickr member - join the protest!

We had a solitary day of sunshine today, having been promised rain all week. So, out we went to take the air, take some photos, and do a few things that we had never done before - visit Shoreham airport, walk the Shoreham footbridge that crosses the estuary, and view the amazing houseboats at the upriver end of the Shoreham Beach village. A great day!

And we enjoyed coffee and breakfast in a great little cafe, so:

A summer of Love and Hardship

It's cold and raining hard today, but last week for two days they put grass down in Trafalgar Square and the sun was shining and it changed the whole spirit of the place. Life feels that much better when the sun is shining.

Going Green

Interesting election results yesterday in my maverick part of the wood.

Brighton was the part of the country with the highest proportion of its population registering their religion on the census as Jedi! We're a bit odd like that.

Now, in the latest elections - which will change little, but are mainly the population's chance to tell Tony Blair how disappointed we are with him and how little we trust him now - the bit of East-Central Brighton where I live has decided to buck the national trend and gone green. Not one, not two, but three wards here elected wholely Green Party councillors.
